Open a Microsoft Project XML
Drop the file: the tasks, links, constraints, deadlines, calendars and resources are read, then the dates are recalculated. What the file stored and what the calculation gives are shown side by side.

Check what each column holds before reading. A table read wrong does not show: it gives a plausible schedule that is false.

When to use it
This is the output Microsoft Project produces to be read elsewhere, and the only one that lets you go and come back without Project: File, Save As, XML format.
You want to check a schedule you received, get a clean Gantt chart out of it, move it into a spreadsheet, or simply see what is holding the critical path before a meeting.
What this page does
- Tasks, with their hierarchy, durations, progress, milestones and summary tasks.
- The four link types (finish to start, start to start, finish to finish, start to finish) and their lags, positive and negative.
- Project's eight constraints, its deadlines, and manually scheduled tasks.
- Calendars: work weeks, dated exceptions, public holidays, and the calendars belonging to resources.
- Resources and their assignments.
- The dates stored in the file, kept as they are, and the recalculated dates, shown next to them.
What it does not do: The recalculation is not presented as identical to Project's. It is shown beside the file's dates, with the gap task by task and, where there is one, its explanation. Resource levelling is not performed.
What is read
- The Microsoft Project XML (MSPDI), written by Project 2003 and later.
- ISO 8601 durations (
PT8H0M0S), lags in tenths of a minute, Project's time units. - Stored baselines, kept separate from the current dates.
No file is uploaded: the schedule is read by your browser, in this tab, and the page is not allowed to open a connection to any other site.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I get this XML out of Project?
- File, Save As, then choose "Microsoft Project XML (*.xml)" in the list of formats. The resulting file contains the whole schedule. The detailed guide.
- Are the recalculated dates the same as Project's?
- On the test files they agree to the minute across every task. That is not a general guarantee, and the tool does not offer one: the gap is shown task by task, and you can read it before relying on it.
- Can I give the file back to someone who has Project?
- Yes. The workshop writes a Project XML that Project opens natively. It never writes an .mpp.
