When to use it

GanttProject is free, and it is often the first tool a small organisation uses. The file ends up with someone who has not installed it.

Or you want a printable Gantt chart, a workbook, or an XML that Project will open, out of a .gan.

What this page does

  • Nested tasks, with their duration and progress.
  • Dependencies, which GanttProject writes on the predecessor's side, put back the usual way round.
  • Lags, link types, and date constraints.
  • Public holidays declared in the file.
  • Resources and their assignments.

What it does not do: GanttProject's views, colours and custom columns are not carried over. Klargantt does not write .gan files back.

What is read

  • GanttProject .gan, uncompressed XML.
  • Files saved by versions 2.x and 3.x.

No file is uploaded: the schedule is read by your browser, in this tab, and the page is not allowed to open a connection to any other site.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install GanttProject?
No. The .gan is an XML file, read here directly.
Can I move the schedule into Microsoft Project?
Yes: the workshop writes a Project XML, which Project opens natively. That is the way back, and it does not go through an .mpp.
