Open a schedule file
Your client sends you a Microsoft Project or Primavera schedule, and you cannot open it. Drop the file: it is read in this tab. It is recalculated, checked, and rendered as a Gantt chart, a workbook or a PDF.
Drop a schedule file
Microsoft Project XML, Primavera P6 XER, GanttProject .gan, CSV or .xlsx table, .mpp recognised. Or
This table, column by column
Check what each column holds before reading. A table read wrong does not show: it gives a plausible schedule that is false.
Schedule quality check
Gap between the file and the recalculation
Three-week look-ahead
What the reader noticed
Comparison with another version
The open file is the earlier version. Drop the version to compare.
- 4 schedule formats read
- 14 DCMA check points
- 0 bytes uploaded
What you can do with a schedule file
One page per question, 14 in all. Behind them, the same workshop and the same dropped file: there is nothing to choose before you start.
Open a file
-
Open an .mpp filecommon
Microsoft Project's native format, the one nobody opens without Project.
-
Open a Project XMLcommon
Microsoft Project's interchange format, read in full and written back.
-
Open a Primavera XERcommon
Primavera P6's interchange format, the one that travels between client and contractor.
-
Open a GanttProject .gan
GanttProject's format, read without installing GanttProject.
Convert and render
-
Convert a schedule to Excelcommon
An .xlsx workbook with real dates and real numbers, not text.
-
Convert a schedule to PDFcommon
A Gantt chart paginated from A4 to A0, or one single page for a plotter.
-
Export a Gantt chart as an image
A PNG to paste into a report, an SVG to rework in a layout tool.
-
Convert a schedule to CSV
One row per task, for import into another tool.
Recalculate
-
Calculate the critical pathcommon
Forward pass, backward pass, and the task that actually holds the project finish.
-
Total float and free float
Both kinds of float, in working days, negative values included.
-
Holidays and work calendars
Work weeks, dated exceptions, public holidays, resource calendars.
Check and compare
-
Schedule quality checkcommon
The 14 DCMA points, plus three checks of our own, with the number and the threshold.
-
Compare two versions
What was added, removed, renamed, moved or stretched between two versions.
-
Three-week look-ahead
The rolling extract the site meeting expects every Monday.
66 schedules opened since launch, and that is everything we record.
Why this tool and not another
Three reasons, and all three can be checked in your browser's Network tab.
Nothing leaves the tab
A schedule carries contractual deadlines, penalties and the names of the people on the job. It is not uploaded: the page is not allowed to open a connection to another site, and the browser is what enforces that.
The file's dates and the recalculated dates, side by side
The workshop does not overwrite what it read. It shows what the file says, what the recalculation gives, and the gap between the two, task by task.
The result is a file
No account, no server, no sharing. You leave with a PDF, an image, a workbook, a CSV, or an XML that Project can open.
What it does not do
The boundary is sharp, and it will not move: Klargantt opens a schedule file, recalculates it, checks it and renders it. It does not manage the project.
- No project management. No account, no server, no sharing, no task assigned to anyone, no notification.
- No resource levelling. An overload is reported, never resolved on your behalf.
- No .mpp writing. The way back to Project is its XML format, which Project opens natively.
- No conclusion about delay. Comparing two versions gives you the differences; the analysis stays yours.
- No promise of equivalence with Project. The file's dates and the recalculated dates are shown side by side, and the gap is explained.
What is read today
The format is recognised by the content of the file, never by its extension.
| Format | Where it comes from | What is read from it |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Project XML | Project, File, Save As, XML format | Tasks, links, constraints, deadlines, calendars, resources, assignments, stored baselines. Read and written back. |
| Primavera P6 XER | P6, Export, Primavera PM (XER) | Activities, work breakdown structure, relationships, calendars, resources. |
| GanttProject .gan | GanttProject, native save | Nested tasks, dependencies, lags, public holidays. |
| Microsoft Project .mpp | Project, native save | The container is recognised and inventoried, and the format generation is named. The task detail is waiting for real files. |
Who it is written for
Three trades receive schedules they did not produce, and have to meet them anyway.
Construction sites
The contractor's schedule arrives from the supervisor, and the site manager pulls the three-week look-ahead out of it. The construction page.
Engineering and design offices
A Primavera XER arrives from the client, and nobody can open it. The engineering page.
Project supervision
Two versions of the same schedule, and someone has to say what moved. The supervision page.
Drop a schedule
The file stays on your machine. Nothing is sent, nothing is installed, there is no account to create.
How it goes
Three moves, all of them in the browser.
Drop the file
The format is recognised by its content, never by its extension. An XER renamed to .txt still opens.
Look at the gap
The stored dates, the recalculated dates, the critical path, the float, and the 14-point check report. Whatever could not be read is said, not hidden.
Take what you need
A paginated Gantt chart up to A0, an image, a workbook, a CSV, or an XML for Project.
